FANS-TASTIC
Dennis Wise was quick to praise both his players and the fans after Saturday's 4-1 win against Southend United at Elland Road.
Goals from Alan Thompson, Tore Andre Flo, Rui Marques, and Jermaine Beckford sealed the win after Southend had levelled matters at 1-1.
The game was watched by 24,036 - over 1,500 more than watched last season's opening home game - and the fans played a big part in a final flurry that saw three goals in the final five minutes.
"I thought we were fantastic in the second half," said Dennis.
"We conceded a goal where we were a bit unfortunate because Matty (Heath) slipped, but the lads responded well and that was down to the fans.
"The fans reacted straight away and that lifted the lads.
"I was disappointed at 1-1 because I felt we should have been further in front, and we deserved the win.
"We're performing well at the moment and we're looking very strong."
The win reduces the points deficit to minus nine and confidence is high in the camp after three straight victories.
"It was important that we won this game," added the boss.
"Tranmere was important last weekend and our first home game was very important.
"There's a long, long way to go, though and we have to keep our feet on the ground."
The bad news was the loss of Ian Westlake and Andrew Hughes through injury. Westy will go for a scan early next week.
Dennis also confirmed his interest in bringing in Wolves defender Jamie Clapham on loan, but stressed that no deal is done as yet.
